Agadir Merzouga Desert Tour Highlights
Day 1: Agadir – Taliouine – Taznakht – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley – Tinghir
Your Agadir Merzouga Desert Tour begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or accommodation in Agadir. You will leave the Atlantic coast behind and travel through the changing landscapes of southern Morocco.
The first part of the journey takes you through traditional Amazigh villages toward Taliouine, a town famous for producing saffron. You will then continue to Taznakht, which is well known for its colorful handmade carpets and weaving traditions.
The journey proceeds to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco” because of its film studios and the international productions filmed throughout the surrounding region.
You will also visit Ait Ben Haddou, a historic fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This impressive ksar was once an important stop for caravans traveling between the Sahara and Marrakech. Its traditional earthen architecture has also appeared in numerous international films and television productions.
After time for lunch in the Ouarzazate area, you will continue through the beautiful landscapes of the Dades Valley. The road passes traditional villages, rocky mountains and fertile valleys before reaching Tinghir.
Dinner will be served at your accommodation, where you will spend the first night of the tour.
Overnight: Tinghir
Meals: Dinner
Day 2: Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, the second day begins with a journey through the oasis landscapes surrounding Tinghir. Depending on the available time, you can enjoy a stop near Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs create one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landscapes.
The journey continues toward Erfoud, a desert town known for dates, fossils and mineral products. As you travel farther southeast, the scenery becomes increasingly arid, announcing your approach to the Sahara.
You will then continue to Rissani, a historic trading town with a traditional market and a strong connection to Morocco’s ancient caravan routes. Depending on the schedule, you may enjoy a local lunch, including the region’s well-known stuffed flatbread, often called Berber pizza.
Later in the afternoon, you will arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. This is one of the most anticipated moments of the Agadir Merzouga Desert Tour.
You will meet your camel guide and begin a camel trek across the golden dunes. Along the way, you will stop to admire the sunset and take photographs of the Sahara landscape.
Upon arrival at the desert camp, you will be welcomed with traditional hospitality. Enjoy dinner beneath the stars and listen to local Amazigh music around the campfire. You will then spend the night in a private desert tent surrounded by the peaceful dunes.
Overnight: Merzouga desert camp

Day 3: Merzouga – Taznakht – Taroudant – Agadir
We recommend waking up early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. The changing colors of the desert at daybreak create a peaceful and memorable experience.
After breakfast at the camp, you will return from the dunes by camel and meet your driver. The return journey to Agadir then begins, taking you across the open landscapes of southern Morocco.
You will travel through a variety of desert, mountain and countryside scenery before reaching Taznakht. From there, the journey continues toward Taroudant, a historic town surrounded by distinctive defensive walls.
After short comfort and refreshment stops along the way, you will continue to Agadir. Arrival is expected in the late evening because of the considerable distance between Merzouga and the Atlantic coast.
Your driver will drop you off at your hotel or selected location in Agadir, marking the end of your Agadir Merzouga Desert Tour.
