3-Day Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga

Your Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour begins after breakfast with pickup from your hotel or riad in Fes. You will leave Morocco’s spiritual capital and travel south through the changing landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Your first stop will be Ifrane, a peaceful mountain town known for its alpine-style architecture, clean streets and cool climate. From Ifrane, you will continue toward the cedar forest near Azrou, where you may see native Barbary macaques living among the trees. Visitors should avoid touching or feeding the animals.

The journey continues through mountain landscapes and traditional Amazigh villages. As you travel farther south, the scenery gradually changes from green forests to rocky mountains and open desert terrain.

You will pass through Midelt and continue across the eastern mountain region toward Errachidia. Along the way, you will enjoy panoramic views of the Ziz Valley, known for its extensive palm groves, traditional villages and fertile oasis.

After passing through Erfoud, a town famous for fossils and date production, you will arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes.

In the late afternoon, you will meet your camel guide and ride across the golden dunes. You will stop to watch the sunset before continuing to your luxury desert camp.

At the camp, you will enjoy dinner and traditional Amazigh music around the fire. You will then spend the night in a private tent beneath the Sahara sky.

Overnight: Luxury desert camp in Merzouga
Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Merzouga – Erfoud – Todra Gorge – Tinghir – Dades Valley

We recommend waking up early to experience the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you will return from the desert and meet your driver.

The second day of the Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour takes you west toward the Dades Valley. You will travel through desert towns and changing mountain landscapes, with a possible stop in Erfoud to learn about the fossils and minerals found throughout the region.

The journey continues toward Tinghir, a historic oasis town surrounded by palm groves and traditional villages. From Tinghir, you will travel to Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural attractions.

At Todra Gorge, towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of the river. You will have time for a short walk, photographs and lunch in the surrounding area.

Later, you will continue through the landscapes of the Dades region. Along the way, you will see traditional Amazigh villages, unusual rock formations and historic kasbahs that reflect the local way of life.

You will arrive at your accommodation in the Dades Valley in the late afternoon or early evening. Dinner will be served at your hotel or guesthouse.

Overnight: Dades Valley
Meals: Breakfast and dinner

Day 3: Dades Valley – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, you will leave the Dades Valley and travel along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.

Your first major destination will be Kelaat M’Gouna in the Rose Valley. This region is known for producing roses and traditional cosmetic products, including rose water, oils and soaps. Depending on the available time, you may stop at a local cooperative to learn more about the production process.

You will then continue toward Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco” because of its film studios and its connection to numerous international productions. An optional visit to Atlas Studios can be arranged, with the entrance ticket paid separately.

The journey proceeds to Ait Ben Haddou, a historic fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its traditional earthen buildings represent the architecture of southern Morocco, and the village once served as an important stop along the caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech.

A local guide will accompany you on a walk through Ait Ben Haddou. After exploring the village, you will have time for lunch at a nearby restaurant with panoramic views of the ksar.

In the afternoon, the Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour continues across the High Atlas Mountains. You will travel through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, stopping at panoramic viewpoints to admire the mountain scenery.

Depending on the schedule, you may also stop at a women’s cooperative to learn about locally produced goods and how these projects support communities in the High Atlas region.

You will arrive at your hotel or riad in Marrakech at approximately 5:00 PM. The exact arrival time may change depending on traffic, weather and the duration of stops.
