3-Day Marrakech Merzouga Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Rose Valley – Dades Valley

Your Marrakech Merzouga Tour begins at approximately 8:00 AM with pickup from your hotel, riad or an accessible meeting point in Marrakech.

You will leave the city and travel across the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, several stops will be made at panoramic viewpoints where you can admire the mountain landscapes and traditional villages.

Your first major destination will be Ait Ben Haddou, a historic fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ksar is known for its traditional earthen architecture and has appeared in numerous international films and television productions.

You will have time to walk through the village, cross the river and climb toward the upper part of the ksar for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

After visiting Ait Ben Haddou, you will continue to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara and the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Depending on the available time, you can stop for lunch or arrange an optional visit to one of the local film studios.

The journey continues through the Skoura palm grove and the Rose Valley, known for producing roses and traditional cosmetic products.

In the late afternoon, you will arrive in the Dades Valley. Dinner will be served at your hotel or guesthouse, where you will spend the first night.

Overnight: Dades Valley
Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Dades Valley – Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast, you will leave the Dades Valley at approximately 8:00 AM and continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.

The route passes traditional Amazigh villages and changing mountain landscapes before reaching Tinghir. This oasis town is known for its extensive palm groves and location between the High Atlas and Sahara regions.

You will then continue to Todra Gorge, where dramatic limestone cliffs rise on both sides of the river. Some sections of the canyon reach approximately 300 metres in height.

You will have time for a short walk through the gorge, photographs and lunch in the surrounding area.

Afterward, the Marrakech Merzouga Tour continues through desert towns and open landscapes toward Erfoud, a region known for dates, fossils and mineral products.

In the afternoon, you will arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Depending on your arrival time and the facilities available, you may relax briefly before beginning the desert experience.

You will meet your camel guide and ride across the golden dunes toward the desert camp. The camel trek usually lasts between one and two hours, depending on the camp’s location and weather conditions.

Along the way, you will stop to admire the sunset and take photographs. At the camp, you will enjoy dinner and traditional Amazigh music around the fire before spending the night in a private tent beneath the Sahara sky.

Overnight: Merzouga desert camp
Meals: Breakfast and dinner

Day 3: Merzouga – Tazarine – Draa Valley – Agdez – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

We recommend waking up early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you will return from the desert by camel and meet your driver.

The final day involves a long but scenic journey back to Marrakech. You will travel through the open landscapes of southern Morocco toward Tazarine, a quiet town surrounded by mountains and desert scenery.

The journey continues through the beautiful Draa Valley, known for its long palm groves, traditional villages and historic kasbahs. You will then pass through Agdez before continuing toward Ouarzazate.

A stop will be made for lunch at a local restaurant along the route. Lunch is not included in the tour price.

After Ouarzazate, you will cross the High Atlas Mountains once again through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Short stops will be made for photographs, refreshments and comfort breaks.
