5 Day Merzouga Tour Highlights
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura
Your 5 Day Merzouga Tour begins with morning pickup from your hotel, riad or an accessible meeting point in Marrakech.
You will leave the ochre city and travel across the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Stops will be made at panoramic viewpoints where you can observe mountain scenery and everyday life in remote Amazigh villages.
In the afternoon, you will visit Ait Ben Haddou, a historic fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ksar is one of southern Morocco’s finest examples of traditional earthen architecture and has appeared in numerous international films and television productions.
After exploring the village, you will continue to Ouarzazate. Often called the “Hollywood of Morocco,” the city and its surrounding landscapes have been used for productions including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator.
Depending on the available time, you may visit a film studio or enjoy a panoramic stop before continuing to Skoura.
Skoura is a beautiful oasis filled with palm groves, gardens and historic kasbahs, with views extending toward the Atlas Mountains. You will check into your boutique riad or hotel and enjoy the evening at your leisure.

Day 2: Skoura – Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga
After breakfast, you will begin the day with a visit to Kasbah Amridil, one of the best-preserved kasbahs in the Skoura Oasis.
The 5 Day Merzouga Tour then continues along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through the Rose Valley and the rugged landscapes surrounding Boumalne Dades.
You will travel toward Tinghir and visit Todra Gorge, where limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of the river. Some sections of the canyon reach approximately 300 metres in height.
You will have time for a short walk through the gorge before continuing through desert towns and open landscapes toward Erfoud, a region known for dates, fossils and mineral products.
In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will meet your camel guide and ride across the sand for approximately 45 minutes, depending on the camp’s location and weather conditions.
Along the way, you will stop to watch the sunset before continuing to your luxury desert camp. Dinner will be served at the camp, followed by traditional Amazigh music around the fire.
You will spend the night in a private tent surrounded by the peaceful Sahara dunes.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert Exploration
We recommend waking up early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast, you will begin exploring the Merzouga region by 4WD vehicle.
You will travel around the dunes and visit the Merzouga oasis before continuing to Khamlia. This village is known for its Gnawa musical heritage, preserved by communities whose ancestors arrived in Morocco from sub-Saharan Africa through historic caravan routes.
You will have the opportunity to listen to traditional music and learn more about the community’s cultural traditions.
The journey continues across the desert landscape to meet local nomadic families. This respectful visit offers an opportunity to learn about their daily lives, traditions and adaptation to the Sahara environment.
Weather and seasonal conditions permitting, you may also visit the nearby Lake of Merzouga. The lake’s water level changes according to rainfall and can attract different species of migratory birds.
You will then continue to Rissani, a historic trading town located near the remains of ancient Sijilmassa. For centuries, this area served as an important center for caravans traveling across the Sahara.
When the traditional market is open, you can walk through sections selling spices, produce, clothing, crafts and livestock.
After lunch, you will return to Merzouga. The remainder of the afternoon can be spent relaxing at your accommodation. Optional quad-bike and dune-buggy experiences can also be arranged at an additional cost.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Nkob – Agdz – Ait Ben Haddou
After breakfast, you will leave Merzouga and begin the journey west toward Ait Ben Haddou.
You will pass through Rissani before continuing toward Alnif. The Alnif region is internationally known for its fossils, particularly trilobites and other prehistoric marine specimens found in the surrounding rock formations.
Depending on your interests, you may stop at a local fossil workshop to learn more about the region’s geological history.
The journey continues to Nkob, a peaceful town surrounded by mountains and palm groves. Nkob is particularly known for its numerous traditional kasbahs. A lunch break will be arranged in the area.
You will then travel to Agdz, situated at the foot of Jebel Kissane and near the Draa River. From Agdz, the road follows beautiful palm groves and traditional villages built around historic kasbahs.
In the late afternoon, you will continue to Ait Ben Haddou and check into your boutique riad or hotel.

Day 5: Ait Ben Haddou – Telouet – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
After breakfast, you will leave Ait Ben Haddou and travel toward Telouet through the scenic Ounila Valley.
The valley is known for its mountain scenery, traditional villages, cultivated terraces and historic caravan-route architecture.
At Telouet, you will visit the impressive Telouet Kasbah. Although parts of the building have deteriorated over time, its decorated interior rooms reveal fine mosaics, carved plaster and traditional craftsmanship.
After exploring the kasbah, you will continue through the High Atlas Mountains. A lunch stop will be arranged near Ait Barka or another suitable location along the route.
The 5 Day Merzouga Tour concludes with the journey across the mountains to Marrakech. Short stops will be made for panoramic views, photographs and refreshments.
You will arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening. The exact arrival time depends on traffic, weather, road conditions and the duration of stops.
Drop-off will be arranged at your hotel, riad or the closest accessible location.
